The 5:2 diet, the 16:8 – I’m sure you have heard these words and weird numbers thrown around before but have not been too sure what they mean – right? Well don’t worry in this weeks blog we break down the benefits of intermittent fasting so you can get that bikini body that little bit quicker.

 What is it?

To put it simply, intermittent fasting is skipping certain meals on purpose and then feasting on others. Meaning you consume calories during a specific window of the day and choose not to eat food for a larger period of time.

16:8 – The 16:8 protocol is fasting for 16 hours per day and then only eating within an 8-hour window.

5:2 – This diet got its name because for 5 days of the week you eat normally whilst for 2 days of the week you restrict yourself to 500 – 600 calories per day. 


Why do it?

There are sooo many benefits of intermittent fasting such as –

Intermittent fasting changes the function of cells, genes and hormones.

 When you don’t eat for a while some serious things happen to your body. Such as:

  • Blood levels of insulin drop thus facilitating fat burning #yaaass
  • The blood levels of the human growth hormone increase, which can also facilitate fat burning and muscle growth.
  • The body will undergo some srs cellular repairs


Intermittent Fasting can help you lose weight & belly fat.

  • Intermittent fasting will make you eat fewer meals and will mean you essentially end up taking in fewer calories and we all know that fewer calories = weight loss. 
  • Studies have shown that intermittent fasting can cause weight loss of 3-8% over 3-24 weeks (that is massive!) People that took part in this study lost 4 -7% of their waist circumference, which indicates they lost belly fat.


Intermittent Fasting can lower your risk of type 2 diabetes

  • Intermittent fasting has been shown to have major benefits for insulin resistance and can lead to a reduction of blood sugar levels meaning that it can help protect against Type 2 diabetes.

So if you are looking for a quick, kickass new program perhaps intermittent fasting is the one for you!

This type of dieting doesn’t work for anyone and the team at ZCF strongly suggests doing your research and seeing a doctor before beginning any intermittent fasting periods.
